In Gentoo, make sure you emerged alsa-lib, alsa-utils, and alsa-headers. After that, type alsamixer and adjust the settings. If you want every program include ALSA, backup your installation (just in case). Second run emerge --sync. After that add USE="alsa" to /etc/make.conf. Then type emerge -uavDN world.

I'm new to Gentoo, having just come from Arch, and I can't seem to get it working. According to lspci, it's "Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio". Here's some outputs: lspci -k says Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel. dmesg | grep hdaudio says hdaudio: Unable to bind the codec, and then a similar line but with C0D2.
