I installed Gentoo about 2 years ago and at that time, I did not set any special USE-flags. Just a simple profile and gnome-light. I have not explicitly emerged pulseaudio, it was emerged as part of the profile settings, I guess. Sound was working with kernel 5.4.80-gentoo-r1, no problem until a week ago.
