For the most transparent sound, I use (on the mic-res side) 2000ohm impedence, -5 gain input, volume at 9-9.5, -3db at 10khz, -1.5db at 100khz... and on the 1176 side I use a #6 attack, #5 release, #5 input, #7 output, 4:1 ratio with gain reducing pretty consistent at 3-5 db.

Somebody mentioned years ago about Johnny Cash "settings" from album produced by Rick Rubin and I found that pretty cool sounding. I usually link two 1176's together. First one is 8:1 with fastest attack & fastest release and the second one gives edge to vocals 12:1 with attack at 1 o'clock and release at 2 o'clock.

the 6176 has a nice fat warm sound when you dial in the settings right. Make sure to check the metering on the pre amp and the compressor. The low impedance option is usefull and of course the 1176 side of it is always going to be useful with all kinds of pre amps.
