Any one company who had this sort of issue usually would never get past type approval. GSM was a 6000 pound gorilla (that's 10 x the usually overwhelming 600 pound ones). The interference is an accidental subharmonic related to how signalling frames are built. \$\endgroup\$ –

You need to put the entire audio amplifier inside a shielded box, and decouple all the wires going into the box . GSM uses TDMA so when transmitting its basically a hi power AM transmitter right next to a low level audio amplifier. Other solution is to not use GSM and use 3G which doesnt have the interferance problem.

Interference between GSM/EDGE and Other Cellular Radio Technologies 591 D.3.1 Downlink The interference power in downlink is P r = P B −L min −L ACIR,DL (6) where P B is the total transmission power of the interfering base station, L min is the minimum coupling loss from the base station to the mobile station and L ACIR,DL is the ACIR described in Section D.2.1.

It is common to find recordings mired by GSM cell phone interference—a “dit dit dit” or buzzing sound from the RF transmission that can creep into analog circuits. The De-Click module in iZotope’s RX audio noise reduction software has a preset built specifically for mitigating this problem.

• TDMA Noise (“buzz”) in GSM mobile phones is generated from a 217Hz waveform which produces an audible noise when coupled into the audio path and conducts to the speaker, earpiece, or microphone4. Further details of this type of noise will follow.

Interference to audio equipment from cellphone devices and the wireless infrastructure generally falls into two categories: 1. RF signals that get into audio circuits and are detected (demodulated) similar to an AM radio. Certain cellular carriers used a radio protocol known as GSM-TDMA.
