I uninstalled a really old unlicensed copy and replaced it with a newer trial version. But now, none of my GP files have any sound! I'm definitely not inclined to purchase this program just yet! When I ran into this problem, the cause was that I had not granted Guitar Pro access rights to my microphone. When I first read that this might be the problem, I dismissed it as stupid (Guitar Pro has no need for my microphone after all), but after finally giving in and trying it, it fixed the issue.
