The funny thing is, I've played UT2004 with H/W 3D + EAX enabled on Realtek HD Audio before, but it was also not nearly as accurate as playing with a super old Soundblaster. I could sense direction alright, but distance was nearly impossible to accurately judge, and neither could I tell if someone was behind a wall or not.

I have on-board 7.1 sound on my Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3P but it uses Realtek ALC888 and ut2k4 is uses H/W 3D + EAX for it's sound. I have tried all the options for sound output in UT2k4 (like just "H/W 3D audio") but there is not difference the best I seem to be able to do is just output normal stereo at the rear but it's not 3D :(.
