I get the impression that pulseaudio has a superior architecture and the distro managers fell in love with it and released it, but half of the applications don\’t support it yet. My work laptop, a Dell D830, had some server wireless issues. I did find a work around and got it to work… and then an upgrade come along and breaks it again!

The upgrade to Ubuntu Hardy and thus to Ardour 2.3 seems to have broken my system. Simply put: I open an Ardour session and the CPU use jumps to 100% and stays there. It takes something like ten seconds for the program to register when I try to select a different sound file. It will play a session fine, but doing any real editing (let alone trying to run a sequencer at the same time!) …

I tried PulseAudio on 7.10, had issues, removed it. After upgrade to hardy, PulseAudio is the default. Now, forzen bubble cant open the sound device to enable music and sounds. From the messages, it looks like it is using the ALSA interface. I tried modifying the asound.conf etc. No success. Most other apps are just fine.
