I have Asus Laptop model F6V with Ati Radeon HD 3470 graphics and Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (precise pargolin). I have set the the output to HDMI but get no sound. Speakers and headset are ok. I tried several things but nothing: check with alsamixer if HDMI is unmuted, added . radeon.audio=1 to grub, added . options snd-hda-intel xxx model=xxx

The Tosh only has 2 HDMI ports - HDMI 1 is used for Sky HD and HDMI 2 has a splitter for my HD-DVD and the PC. Just realised that an AV setting in the Tosh menu requires changing to PC/HDMI1 for audio when using a vga cable. I hooked up the old rca cable to the tv and Optiplex soundcard and I now have sound.
