1,585. Nov 21, 2016. #4. not quite true. dvi-d is completely capable of carrying audio. i've used hdmi-dvid adapters for years without issue. it is only the earlier dvi itterations that did not have audio support. dvi-d has been around since at least 2003/4.

I get sound on the Roku loading screen but then it changes itself to DVI for some unknown reason. Never had this problem with anything else. I’m aware DVI is video input only. Tried different HDMI cables in different HDMI ports. My TV doesn’t even have a DVI input. Done all of the usual changed audio to stereo, rebooted etc.

DVI does not have audio. HDMI does, but DVI doesn't. If your source is a DVI there is no audio signal. Not if you follow the specifications for DVI. In my case its HDMI to my monitors DVI. The audio part of my HDMI signal goes no where. It dead ends at the HDMI to DVI adapter on my monitor. I use PC speakers so its no big deal for me.
