It's amazing what a DSP audio bandpass filter and some binaural channelization can do for a filterless CW receiver! The FT-818's default config is the same bandwidth as SSB phone, which makes for a lot of unnecessary noise. I built it with a Teensy 4.0 microcontroller and the PJRC audio board, with a DSP chain described in the blog post above.
