If the issue still persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the audio drivers from Device manager: Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. It was. Here I could also see the audio levels moving when I played a sound. I checked within device manager wether anything was wrong but no red flags there. I then reinsstalled all audio drivers (Realtek & Nvidia), this had no effect. I installed older versions of the Realtek driver, the ones that were op the HP website. No effect.

Except the sound. In the lower right hand corner in the task/tool bar the sound icon has a small red circle with a white x going through it. The built in speakers don't work, nor do headphones. The PC has the current windows updates installed and the problem still persists. The Audio Driver won't update.
