Everything previewed OK, then when I compiled with iDVD, there was no audio in some of my scenes. I finally figured out that somehow my settings put the pan control to -1 (left I think), but the audio was created with a mono microphone - on the other channel.

I have the exact same problem. Just installed ilife 09. Created imovie 09 project and shared it with idvd. Upon successful burn, last several minutes of video has no audio. iDVD uses PCM audio tracks rather than the more commonplace AC-3 Maybe the way you have the audio connected from your DVD player to your home theater system (i.e. optical link) may require your changing a setting in the set up of the DVD player to output PCM audio through the optical link.

Most likely, your other players are missing a codec or it is corrupt. Just try the conversion and burning with whatever software you normally use (or new software for that matter), and then burn on an -RW disc. Then if it doesn't work, you can reuse the disc. Using IDVD 6, I burned 7 DVDs. 3 had audio, 4 didn't. All had the obligatory music intro from IDVD program but when you pressed play for my movie there was no sound. All DVDs were from the same batch. I trashed preferences, etc. It did nothing.
