From my recollection of iMovie HD 6, you should be able to split the audio track at various points, then delete the unwanted pieces. I can't recall the command, but it's probably in the Edit menu. Otherwise right-click (or Control-click) on the audio track and select Split from the pop-up menu (but I'm not sure if this method is available in HD 6).
