As soon as I send the HDMI cable from the laptop to the switch, the receiver does not seem to be getting a 5.1 audio stream, but rather a stereo stream that I have to simulate surround sound. Have not tried HD Graphics 3000 to AVR, but I have used HD 4000 and an VERY old Nvidia 130m. I do have access to a Sandy Bridge HD3000 laptop, but it's been years since I tried connecting that. In both cases, supported bitrates using default drivers always showed PCM 2, 5.1, 7.1up to whatever the AVR supports.

The Nvidia card has a display port to HDMI adapter, which I use to connect to the HDMI audio extractor which sends the HDMI on to the HDTV. But all the sound it ever gets is stereo. I plug a fireTV stick into the HDMI splitter and I get 5.1 Dolby out of the sound coaxial port on both the splitter and the HDTV, so the hardware works.
