Also, the issue was not fixed when I briefly converted to Windows 10 (returned back to windows 8.1). In addition, I have tried using the alternate "High Definition Audio Device" driver in place of the IDT CODEC, but the same issue happened - sound would randomly turn off until I restarted or put my computer to sleep.
