I am trying to make Sun Java 1.6.0_20 output its sound through PulseAudio. Currently, Java uses the sound card directly, blocking every other application from using sound when a Java program is running. Other applications work just fine, and I can get multiple programs to output sound at the same time as long as no Java program is running.

Now that I'm on 14.2 this beast of pulseaudio was shoved upon us and now I can not get usable sound. I say usable sound because I can see in pavucontrol that the sound is being forced to my videocard's hdmi port. I have no way of telling it to use my sound card (EMU20K2 Soundblaster X-fi) I've tried pctl and still no luck.

Java doesn't have direct pulseaudio support, you can however install pulseaudio-alsa and the alsa-plugins in order to have a configuration file which sets ALSA programs to use the pulseaudio plugin. Last edited by V1del (2017-12-21 17:43:18) Offline.
