The JL Audio 500/5 amp is considered a hybrid amp. It's a class A/B amp for the four main channels, and a class D amp for the sub. Class D amps run cooler that class A/B amps, and since the class D portion is driving the most power hungry piece (the sub), it is configured the best so as not to overheat.

Awesome sound quality. This one amp powers the entire system. I have the JL Audio XR 3 way's in the front and I thought that 100 watts per channel would be a little weak for them, but it sounds awesome. I also have the XR 6.5 point series in the back and the 25 watts that goes to the rear still sound great for fill ins.
