I am still trying to understand this, but I did another test on Windows 7 using ImgBurn (which to me is the gold standard of CD/DVD utilities). It created a .bin file and a .cue file, but absolutely refused to create a single .iso file from my audio CD. This is similar to how K3b handled the request, as it created a .bin file and a .toc file.
