In KDE 4, Kaffeine has become a user of built-in functions such as PulseAudio and the utilities in Configure desktop. That's not true. The KDE3 version was plugin based, there was a plugin for xine and one for gstreamer (which was experimental). The KDE4 version uses xine directly (not phonon or pulseaudio; dragon is the one using phonon).
