The ALC alignment procedure in the Kenwood TS-940 Service Manual is seriously flawed. The procedure uses a fixed level of modulation input at the Mic connector, 1.5 kHz audio tone at 5mV. In Step 1, the procedure has you set the Mic Gain VR to MAX, but then instructs you to engage the SEND switch and adjust VR8 on the CONT unit to set the ALC meter at mechanical zero.
