I am using Skype for Linux 8.12.76.2 and using default PulseAudio. The problem is, no matter where I call i.e. Echo test or anyone on my contact list, Skype to Skype call is breaking, breaking really really bad. The last version was crackling sound but after this upgrade, it is impossible to hear anything at all. The Echo test sounds like this:

the problem appears to be that when Skype (and some other apps, apparently) auto-adjust gain and/or boost, pulse audio pushes it over 100% which numbs Skype. so the problem is with pulse-audio, not with Skype. solution is partially described here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/689209/how-to-disable-microphone-volume-auto-adjustment …

Open Skype, Options and check "Sound Devices". Microphone, Speakers and Ringing should be set to PulseAudio server (local). Please tell which version of Linux Mint you have. Are system sounds functioning?

Skype audio (input and output) works correctly only when PC starts, but after using another audio tool/program, like vlc, youtube, Skype audio stop working. Only Skype audio, all other audio opplications continue working. Running Skype from shell doesn't help, no errors in the output. Can anyone help me?
