I did not change anything in my system since one year and everything was really satisfactory. I noticed that this happened since my last windows update (2 days ago).

Since the Audiophile 2496 is a very widely used soundcard, and since most of those installations almost certainly use WinXP, I would guess that either your card is faulty or there is some screwy incompatibality with some other part of your hardware or drivers. Video drivers have produced many audio card conflicts at various times in the past.

- Open a new audio track. You can see the audio track's input at the top of the channel in the mixer (or, in the channel in the edit window, it's the same). Set it to the correct input channel (as seen in the extreme left, remember?) - Hit the 'Record ready" button on the channel (big & round, turns red when on). - Still no sound?

Apr 18, 2011 #1 I'm having real problems with an m-audio 2496 card with win 7. I get crackling on the left hand channel with higher sample rates ie higher than 44.1 khz. After 4 months of struggle with this i have come to the conclusion that it is a driver problem. M-audio are very slow in comming up with a fix for this specificaly win 7 drivers.
