Hey Cerio, Yes, M-audio drivers CAN be a pain. If you go over to the M-audio forums, you can read page after page of frustrated users. On the other hand, I know that Mac is very happy with his, and I just bought the new Fast Track II usb interface, and after a little tweaking, I've had no issues and it sounds pretty good for $100.

In addition to your M-Audio card, does your computer also have a built in soundcard, perhaps integrated into the motherboard? If so, at least as an experiment, you might set that as your default sound output device in Windows, load SmartMusic, and set that as your device in SmartMusic. See if that makes a difference.
