When I have the Bass Boost turned off, it sounds like there's no bass at all, even on all the professional tracks, it sounds really ...

Though I think the BX5a can hit lower frequencies, I remember my AV40 producing slightly more bass output with bass boost. BX5a is definitely not the solution for extra bass. If you dont want to add a sub, the only 2.0 speakers I know that have relatively decent bass is the A5.

For that budget no, and the a5's are £200 more than the av40's and have a 5" woofer compared to the av-40's 4" , for the same price or less than the av-40's you could have had the Edifier Studio R1900 , it has a 5" woofer and handles bass better and sounds a bit more fuller and warmer compared to the av-40s. The Studiophile AV 40 is some of the best studio monitors that M-Audio has come out with. They are very low priced and sound great. You can even purchase these in the “Red Edition” if you do not want the black ones. SOUNDS The sound is very clean and tight, the low end is not real heavy mainly because these monitors are not that big at all.
