If the levels are correct (M-audio mixer in the system notification area) and the ASIO buffer size is for testing set to a high value (>512 samples) and you have this crackles on _all_ channels, send the Delta to the repair service!

The plan would be to replace the external box with I2S->SPDIF converters or (don't know if this would work) simple line drivers for the I2S signals and use 24/96 DACs integrated in the speakers.
