Not sure of the PreSonus but the M-Audio 410 requires a TI (Texas Instruments) firewire chipset or you will be plauged with static in your recordings. In any event...firewire for $299 = Presonus firebox with Cuebase LE Amazon is selling the M-Audio Audiophile 192 for $129 currently (on special), so that leaves (299-129)=$170 towards buying something like Cubebase SX or Pro Tools (Maudio Protools $250). The 2496 is only $89 at Amazon currently.

I would suggest the Firebox over the Solo because of the driverless operation (which is where most people have problems with M-Audio products) and the Presonus preamps may be a tinge better. I tried an M-audio ultra USB on my laptop - couldn't get a big enough buffer to get rid of the pop and clicks. No problem on the quad core Mac, but the Dell XPS 1330 just couldn't do it. Got the Presonus Firebox and now all is good! The laptop runs fine, no latency problems. Go with a firewire box....
