The MobilePre allowed me to set up a home studio at low cost that turns out great sound quality. I teamed it up with my MacBook, an Audio Technica AT2035 mic (great mic) and an M-Audio KeyRig49 controller board. I am not, however, using the Pro Tools SE that came with this unit.

The Mobile Pre is a basic 2 in and 2 out interface that has zero latency monitoring. It is one of the most affordable interfaces on the market and it also comes with Pro Tools SE to record with. There are 2 preamps on this model from M Audio. The preamps are decent, but nothing that I would want to use long term.

The MobilePre is very, very clean on acoustic inputs, but is very, very quiet. Sometimes it’s nice to add some warmth and punch to your acoustic recordings. I’ll try to write about that another day. M-Audio Mobile Pre-USB. The unit is powered by the included USB cable. Then you need a mini plug 1/8" stereo plug to monitor in and out. Nice Inputs Low & Hi Z. This all hooked up very nicely and quickly. But of course you need recording software. This "demo" software package was where I started getting into problems.
