You're hearing the direct monitoring and the pro tools return at the same time. You have to mute one or the other. You can mute the inputs direct monitoring by opening the M-Audio Profire App and mute channel 1. If you do that then you can hear your recording apps effects without the doubling sound. There is going to be latency though.
