My audio is set to Digital Audio (S/PDIF), and I have NO SOUND. The problem either started when windows 7 was installed on my desktop, or when a new audio or video card was installed I'm not positive exactly when it started to happen. But all of a sudden the only audio device I had was Digital Audio (S/PDIF), which didn't actually do anything.

Using the M-Audio Monitor Mixer > Patchbay/Router > under the H/W Out SPDIF, mine is set to WavOut SPDIF by default and the 'Monitor Mixer' is grayed out and unselectable. Can I ask what driver are using and how exactly did you install your 2496? I just downloaded the latest WDM drivers and installed them.

Anyway, the M-Audio FW1814 (the big brother to the 410) has temperamental S/PDIF. It stops working correctly unless the device is the only thing on the FireWire bus. (Well, it sometimes works with up to one other device, but only if the M-Audio box is first in the chain.)
