It's great for horns- trumpet, trombone, etc. Sweet overload and color, full bodied and nice, even response; no part of the frequency spectrum seemed particularly accentuated. It's got a -10db pad, low frequency roll off, omni, figure eight, and cardioid. Everything you need, really. I HIGHLY recommend this mic to any and everyone.

An Excellent Mic Locker Addition! This mic has a special sound. It's uniquely suited for leads because it makes sources pop out of a sonic canvas like a retina-splicing streak of cheez doodle orange. I've had great results on vox (so long as they're not the super-sibilant type), on bright acoustic guitar, and on horns.

The Sputnik is flattering on vocals, especially male voices, but I've also had success with it on female vocals. It's adds some really nice tube warmth but still captures all the high end detail you need. It doesn't add much sibilance at all. To me almost seems to compress the source a little.
