It's unfortunate that Swan Speakers (HiVi) doesn't do a better job with their sales and service channels in the US, but I would think the latest Swan M200 MkIII would sound better than anything Audioengine or M-Audio produces in the same price range. I'm not sure why Newegg stopped selling Swan's hi-end multimedia speakers.

I think a better comparison, at least price wise, would be between the Audioengine 2's and the M-audio Studiophile AV40's. Not having demoed either model, I would be more inclined to give the Audioengine 2's a shot first, based simply upon the great write-up they received in Stereophile.

Most reviews I've seen place the A2 above the AV40, and the A2 has better specs on paper as well. On the other hand, you can get the AV40's for half the price of the A2. I got mine for $110 (Cnd). archived feedback link. building an active balanced ground: link.
