Since it is a class complaint driver, I suggest to try connecting to a different USB port. Then go to Device Manager, enable ‘Show hidden devices’. When you say you had the "same problem" with a korg padkontrol, that leads me to think it could be just bad USB ports, or not enough amperage sent through the ports to buss power your gear.

The Trigger Finger is class compliant on both XP and the Mac, so you don't NEED drivers for either version (M-Audio doesn't even have Mac drivers on their website because there are none).
