Go to System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane. Change +When you insert a video DVD+ to Ignore. Then, insert a video DVD and see if it gets mounted to the Desktop but otherwise gets ignored (but does not get ejected). If that works, your problem may be fixed. Change it back to *Open DVD Player* or whatever setting you want, and it will probably work.

I'm not sure about before the firmware update, but the SuperDrive in my G4 867 with latest firmware will not read some audio CDs. Two so far. I put them in, the CD spins around for a while, then ejects.

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine).
