Open pro tools and see if the hardrive can be accessed as a "record" drive in that user account. If it can the permissions on your original user account are screwed up.

Do some checking on how to format a hard drive for Audio on a Mac. It is either as journaled or not as journaled. Case sensitive may play a part also.
