Re: Macintosh HD is not an audio playback volume. You can do this as a test. Create a new user account and make sure it has administrator privileges. Open pro tools and see if the hardrive can be accessed as a "record" drive in that user account. If it can the permissions on your original user account are screwed up.

I have experienced the same problems that Protool users have had, ie: the latest OS update totally screwed up my system. I have done countless program deletes and reinstalls and now both Reason and Protools 6.4 do come up, but Protools states that my primary and music volumes of my hard drive are "..not an audio playback volume."

I just switched to Mac from PC (and having a host of other problems with my Mac)however, when trying to use a PC-formatted HD as a playback volume for Pro Tools -- not suitable for playback. Ive had this prob b4 & these are on G5 mac's not running Tiger. The way I get around it is I open Finder & I copy the whole Pro Tools session onto the G5 hdd. It should work off then work off the G5 hdd.

It should be set to Record, if it's set to Transfer or Playback, you won't be able to record to the drive. If Pro Tools does not allow you to change it to Record, trash the Digidesign Databases folder on all of your drives, inlcuding the system drive, then reboot. Open the session and try again to set the drive to record.
