A guy on crigslist near me is selling a “near mint” marantz 4230 quad. He has the wood grain body not the all metal. He says it’s near mint cosmetically and has some “scratching sound” when using the volume knob. So obviously the pots need to be cleaned and lubricated. Aside from that he says perfect. He’s asking $285.

Well I have this Marantz 4230 that I picked up from a recent estale sale for $5. I know its pretty cheap but there was no casing and the poor thing was getting ready for e-waste, the estate guy thought it was part of an airplane or something so he gave it to me for 5 bucks.

It worked when it arrived, so I only replaced electrolytics in it as well as the bias trimpots which the AudioKarma guys recommend be replaced with 10-turn Bourns trimmers. I made darn sure the bias was set before it was put into service! And the 10-turn trimmers are a great idea. ... Stereo and Audio > Marantz 4230.
