mb quart went down the drain a while ago. JL components are decent but there are far better options out there. i am continually impressed with Hertz speakers. they are made by elettromedia who also manufactures audison. Hertz has some excellent price points and their speakers are of superior quality to most avaliable now, in my opinion.

jL for subwoofers only. CA.com Nostalgist. Stay away from MBQ, the new MB speakers lack midbass, details in the mid and the alum tweeters are harsh and kill your ears. The XR JL's are way better on midbass and fullness on the mids but again have the sharp alum tweeters i cant stand.

Could just be the box you have the mb quarts in idk. The JL's are nice and at that price really nice. In the right box I think you can get great output. Likely not the lowest distortion sub ever, but a good deal imo. It could be, they are in an old sealed JL powerwedge box form 1999, that doesnt seem sealed very well.

The JL Evolutions definitely are still German designed and built. The Chief Engineer for JL Audio is one hell of a perfectionist. He also owns the company. His name is Lucio Proni - helluva nice guy. Bass freak and car nut too. My preference, knowing what I currently know about both, would be the JLs.
