I am a McIntosh owner and realize there is better and worse equipment. I had a MAC 1700 receiver, as a kid, and it still works 36 year later. Good publicity for them. I have had a knob fall off in 6 months on new equipment. Not so good. Most McIntosh guys are friendly and ready to help vs The AK owner and a couple of his mods.

In my opinion the 1700 sounds exponentially better than the 4100, I have lived with both. Not as much power and options but as far as the first 20-30 watts I’ll take the 1700 any day. Funny I knew a kid in high school that drove a white Dino, it was a freebie when his dad bought a P car. An E36 M3 wasn’t a (real) M car either.

First of all the 1900 is all SS and is almost 20 db quieter on the line inputs than the 1700. 1900 is only rated for 10 more watts which isn't a big deal. They are designed to drive efficient speakers and therefore the much higher signal to noise of the 1900 is very important.
