As far as monophonic material like a vocal is to be improved within a reasonable range, VariAudio is a perfectly efficient tool. Very well integrated in the sample editor. Slick. Melodyne Editor can do polyphonic stuff. Absolutely weird and powerful. It can also influence formants etc., so it's the more complete tool that takes you much further.

Overall, Melodyne is immensely more powerful than Vari-Audio, mostly because of its polyphonic tuning and sibilant detection capabilities. This is why costs as much as it does for the Editor or Studio versions. If you only need monophonic pitch correction and plan to stay in Cubase, Vari-Audio is a great option.

Melodyne GUI is perfect, flexible, fast, intuitive. Sound quality is lower to ensure zero latency operation. Variaudio is something between. Pros ever tell you "What to do with the EQ" but never mention what EQ to use as it really does not matter if you do the right thing. variaudio is just as good as you does not hear a pitching effect on most pitched notes ±1tone. If you go extreme up to ±1 octave you can hear the effect of course but the sound does not sound just pitched, the algo tryes to hide the mickey mouse effect as good as melodyne does (my subjective notice).

Dec 23, 2021 #1 OK so I've got Melodyne Essentials and I'm quite tempted to get Melodyne Assistant or even Editor for the polyphonic stuff. For example it’s often better to cut up notes before you start to variaudio them into segments… If a singer is sliding up to notes… cut the slide, and only edit the note they slide to. Edit note by note - don’t affect whole sections at once… However… Melodyne does sound better, and can edit audio polyphonically. It’s just awkward to integrate.

level 1 UomoAnguria · 1y Personal opinion: Melodyne has a slight edge in detection and functions, but Variaudio sounds a little more natural and as a matter of fact I quit using Melodyne because the integrated workflow is soooooo much better! 7 level 2 skijumptoes · 1y That's a really good summary i'd 100% agree with. Technically Melodyne should have the better sound quality but VariAudio is so well integrated into Cubase that it has become the "go to" tool for tuning. Share Reply Quote Top Mentioned Manufacturers
