Sound system upgrade. Look at the Nakamichi decks, they are probably what you are looking for. Even Blaupunkt has gone for the glitz. Nakamichi is apparently top quality plus looks that fit in a Mercedes. Prices start at $400 CDN plus taxes and installation. I want to do this myself but will have to wait a bit.

Up to 1992, the W124 sound system used a two piece Bekker head unit and four speakers (two dash, two rear deck) from 1992 on, the active bass system became standard, this added two 5.25" woofers in the front doors. In 1994, the head unit was switched out to a single piece head (no manual fader) and the speakers more or less stayed the same.

Speakers: I used MBQuart 4" two-way in the dash, MBQuart 5.25" two-way in rear deck, and CL-5 5.25" midrange in the door. The doors and front speakers are wired in parallel (makes 2 ohm). Sub is a 10" Kicker. I used Dynamat Extreme almost everwhere, and switched to Cascade soundproofing for the rest.

On W124 series cars with the full Sound System the rear deck speakers are upgraded to a 5.25" component speaker with 2 external dome tweeters, they add 2 (mini) subwoofers in each door, external power amps, and both dash speakers are ugraded to coaxials. The full Sound System is option number 810. The Active Bass system is option number 814.
