The AVP assembly has been abandoned many years ago and only works with v1.1 of .NET, older than VC#2008, regardless of what version of DirectX you have (since it is not even part of DirectX). In .NET v3.0 or newer I believe you have to use the MediaElement. Or you can use the WindowsMediaPlayer control.
