SAMPLE RATE, 32k, 48k Won't match, more changes. OK, I understand that mini DV tape runs 12bit at 32k and 16bit at 48k. In my class room, I set the cameras to 12bit and FCE to NTSC 32k in the easy set up part of the set up, so I don't get the "sample rate doesn't match" warning. However, some of our cameras don't allow 12 bit, apprently only 16 ...

The mini-DV’s tape size is 7cm x 5cm or 2.75 inches by 2 inches. This tape size was instrumental in the production of compact mini-DV camcorders. But size wasn’t the selling point of mini-DV. I had a mini dv tape that I captured to an avi file with windv. For some reason the tape had 2 different audio sampling rates, 32 khz and 48 khz. The 32 khz plays fine but there is no audio on the 48 khz. During capture, I could hear the sound from the camcorder throughout the whole tape but avi file does not play the later part.

January 5, 2011 at 5:33 pm. Hi Jared, 48k is what FCP edits with, but chances are it will digitize the materail at 32k. After you capture you can convert the audio to 48k. When capture over FW, you usually can’t change the sample rate, FCP automatic will detect it. So you’ll want to convert it after you capture.
