I've tried both High Sierra and Mojave and I'm having no luck. I used an old Mac Pro (2010) from work and my 2017 MacBook Pro 15. Re: MiniDV tape with no sound You can buy head cleaners and funnily enough it's often the audio that suffers first in DV if the heads are dirty .. but the symptoms you describe could also be worn out heads, and over use of a head cleaning tape could have caused this.

The issue seems to be in how the audio was stored on the tape by the Sony. Although DV is supposed to be standardized, I know for a fact that this isn't always the case. Another likely culprit is a dirty playback head which (fortunately) can be cleaned; thus, removing digital pixelation and allowing a clean playback and video tape transfer. Many times playback will be glitchy and will glitch when you play the miniDV tape in the wrong type of camcorder or camera.
