The mic has a nice open sound to it. I ran some A/B tests with a Rode K2 and a Neumann TLM103. The K2 sounded a bit more open to my ears but a touch of EQ on the MA-201 brought the tones of the 2 mics closer to each other. I liked the MA-201 more than the TLM103. The MA-201 had a smoother mid range.
