Monitor Audio SFX speakers dipole or bipole? - AVForums

Dipole is for the side walls. One side of the speaker is out of phase with the other which creates a more diffuse surround field. Bipole should be used if placing them on the rear walls. In Dipole mode, the speakers need to be placed on the correct wall, they should be marked Left and Right. M Member 96948 Distinguished Member Jan 1, 2008 #3

Discussion Starter · #1 · Mar 24, 2004. I'm trying out a set of Monitor Audio speakers for my family room/HT. Specifically the S-8 towers, SLCR center and Sfx rears. I noticed the Silver Sfx speaker can operate in bipole or dipole mode. I plan on mounting the surround speakers (5.1 setup) on the back wall of the room.
Dipole vs Bipole Speakers: What's the Difference?

Bipole Speakers Offer an Interesting Hybrid Approach for Listening. Bipole surround speaker utilizes drivers which are wired in phase with the opposite pair. That means that a bipole speaker creates a diffuse sound, but lacks the dramatic null of a dipole speaker whose drivers are wired at least partially out of phase with one another.
