Many times there will be a brief instant of sound at the start, and then it will go silent. It is not a system-wide problem, it is only with this App. Windows Media Player and other media player programs play back videos correctly with sound, with no problems. The Movies & TV App has this problem with all types of video files.

For media player, you could open Windows Media Player, p ress Alt key > Click on Play> Audio & Language Tracks. Select the Audio Language from the drop down > click OK. If your MKV video has no sound, it's quite likely you have an audio format that the Movies & TV app doesn't support. Our first guess would be a DTS track. Besides MKV DTS, Movies & TV doesn't support HEVC, meaning that it will not play, like what you are seeing above.
