Disable MPC's internal decoder for the codecs you want ffdshow to handle: View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> Transform Filters.. You can right click on the MPC window while it's running and hover over Filters to get a list of filters being used. You should see "ffdshow Video Decoder" in the list when ffdshow is being used.

Does anybody know how to configure WMP 12 or ffdshow to resolve this problem: While WMP 12 plays any video, there is no ffdshow video decoder tray icon, ffdshow audio decoder and Haali Media Splitter only.
