If no type of video works, I would suspect you don't have your audio set up properly. Go to your audio controller settings. If other players work, but not MPC, then reinstall MPC. If it's a particular type of audio, like AC3, you probably don't have the codec installed. Try VLC. It uses it owns codecs, so it may tell you if it's a codec problem.

I haven't used MPC in a while, but go to Tools -> Options -> Playback -> Output and under DirectShow Audio choose... ugh, I can't remember... I know you'll have tons of options but I think its best to choose "Speakers" or "Direct Sound: Speakers"... This is all coming from my last memory of MPC, some entries may have a different name.
