QuickTime Player won't output AC3 audio in muxed MPEG streams. It will let you hear audio in MPEG files if the audio is in MP2 or PCM format. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component handles the video part only. Try playback in MPEG Streamclip.

Odd problem. I don't see why it wouldn't import something as basic as PCM audio properly. I just tried to reconstruct this scenario as good as I could by creating a MPEG-2 file with PCM audio in MEP 15+ and importing that file into Movies on DVD 7. As expected, this worked fine without any problems.

Odds are the files you have are MPEG-2 program streams. These contain picture and sound in a "muxed" format. Many applications have a hard time dealing with "muxed" streams. MPEG Streamclip is not one of them. So that's your choice. The bad news: MPEG Streamclip cannot (to my knowledge) be automated. You have to export each file manually.

Mpg video plays but no sound - only in Media Player 12 I have *.mpg files that play the video but with out sound in my new Windows 7 PC with wmp 12. Weird thing is that the files play without this issue in Windows Media Center and in the Sony Vegas Studio software I have installed.
