I use an Archos AV 500 Mobile DVR to record pictures from a camcorder. It records in AVI format, so before editing it in FCP, I convert it into a Quicktime file using Mpeg Streamclip. I am trying to convert an AVI file in MPEG Streamclip, the problem is there is no video just a blank white screen, the audio plays fine though. The AVI file was captured through an EasyCap USB device set to YUY2/576i using AMCap 9.02 software, the file plays fine in WMP, WMM and Nero.

i just tried to convert a quicktime (768 x 576, 25fps, h.264, no audio) to an avi file using mpeg streamclip for playback on a windows machine. i used the exact same settings (including h.264 codec) for the avi export, and what i got was a slightly bigger file with a black screen ()in quicktime, it was white in mpeg streamclip).
